Scooter the Otter
It’s World Otter Day and to celebrate we are sharing these never before seen videos of North American River Otter Scooter when she came to us as an abandoned pup in May of 2023. We estimate she was about 6-weeks old when she was found alone on a local farm. The farmer waited about 12 hours to see if her mother would return to collect her, but she never did. Scooter came to us and we were hopeful that she could be rehabilitated and returned to the wild. Unfortunately that did not work out as planned, but the silver-lining is that Scooter is now very happy at the Trevor Zoo and you can see her on exhibit every day.

Yes, the stream is down. The company that sold us the $300 "lifetime" software to stream this feed is making us pay another $300 because we had to replace the camera which died! That alone cost us over $700! This is not free to do, and we do not have an extra $1000 just to share this video. Please make a donation at www.millbrook.org/zoodonations. Any amount would be greatly appreciated.
Most likely the camera needs repair. Will likely be back soon.
I hope so!
It's back online. ruclips.net/user/livee3EP1XCH0KQ?si=TAhMKtX3WyFrc-gD

Hii
Again im going to ask about feeding. Otters are carnivorous. As you said. In the wild they eat fish, snails.water bugs... So why in the world are you feeding her CAT FOOD?? Cat food and ferret food, in which as this video states, YOU HAVE TO ADD OIL TO. LMBO. Wouldnt it be better for the animals welfare to feed her what she is meant to eat??! Ei. FISH. Fish that naturally has the oil in it rhat she needs. To me it just seems common sense. Seems feeding fish, even if you wanted to add cat food ect woth it would be best. And STEAK?? When in the wild does an otter ever eat a beef cow?? Wow! Possibly fish frozen into an ice ball that floats or even a few live (NATIVE) fish for her to hunt would GREATLY ENRICH HER LIFE. Not trying to judge. I love what your small zoo is trying to do. I know you are trying to provide a good life. IT JUST SEEMS IN DIETARY ISSUES, YOU ARE NOT MEETING THE BAR. Can i ask... is the lack of natural foods due to financial reasons. Ei. You choose to feed cat food over fresh fish and in case of your red wolves you feed dog kibble & wet dog food vs. Red meat due to a supy issue or financial cost?? Is it cheaper and possible to mauntain a steady diet by feeding kibble. I just dont see how this is better for the animals Processed diet vs a natural diet. I truly am.not trying to be mean/rude. These are serious concerns. Are all zoos allowed to feed whatever they want?? Please if u dont mind explaining why, you choose the diet you do.
Why do you feed them dog kibble. Seems itd be more benifitial to them to eat raw diet. A diet more like theyd find in the wild!. Dog food, even for dogs is crap. Not sure why you wouldnt at least supplement their diet with rabbit, venison ect. Lot of zoos have a program where toad kill is donated. ?? Wont any wolves that are introduced to the wild or into the puppy foster program have no clue what to eat in the wild??! I apologize for being critical and so blunt. This just seems like common sense to me. You dont feed a wolf dog kibble or processed wet dog food It just seems wrong Poor things
Hope to see these beauties tomorrow

I had the good fortune to attend the Exotic Animal Training and Management Program at Moorpark College in Moorpark, California and as part of our Exotic Animal Training class, we visited Hubert Wells home near Lake Sherwood (Westlake Village area) and got to observe him training some of his animals. It was a fantastic experience. Will never forget that day, and being able to observe one of the greats in this field.
I had the pleasure of meeting Hubert several times and selling him three of my Jack Russell's. He was a very kind and compassionate person; very unassuming and caring. Thank you for posting this video of an extremely talented man.
It warms my heart to see happy otters in a natural environnement. Thank you to take care of them !
Awesome video..
